Raw Materials Management (Inputs) - Dematerialization
Establish a mechanism to reduce the amount of material used per product by reducing the material intensity of goods and packaging.

By following this action plan, the organization will be able to put in place an effective mechanism to reduce the amount of material used in its products and packaging, thus contributing to a more sustainable management of resources.
1. Initial analysis:
- Assess current processes: Conduct a thorough analysis of the materials used to manufacture products and packaging.
- Identify reduction opportunities: Determine where material intensity reduction is possible, focusing on products and packaging.
2. Goal setting:
- Set reduction targets: Determine specific quantitative targets for material reduction, for example, reduce the weight of packaging or materials used by 20% by the end of the year.
- Establish success criteria: Define the criteria that will evaluate the success of the material reduction.
3. Research and design:
- Explore material alternatives: Research alternative materials that provide the same functionality with reduced material intensity.
- Design prototypes: Create prototypes of products and packaging with reduced materials and test their functionality and durability.
4. Establish the mechanism:
- Develop procedures: Establish procedures and guidelines for material reduction in production and packaging.
- Train teams: Train design and production teams on new practices and alternative materials to ensure effective adoption of changes.
5. Integrate into production processes:
- Modify production processes: Adapt manufacturing processes to integrate new practices and materials, optimizing techniques to reduce waste.
- Review suppliers: Work with suppliers to ensure they provide the new materials needed and meet new specifications.
6. Monitoring and evaluation:
- Establish a monitoring system: Create a system to monitor the amount of material used per product and compare results to set targets.
- Evaluate performance: Conduct regular audits to assess the effectiveness of changes and identify areas requiring adjustment.
7. Communication and awareness:
- Inform stakeholders: Communicate changes to employees, partners, and customers to highlight the organization’s commitment to waste reduction and resource efficiency.
- Promote results: Share successes and results in material reduction with external stakeholders.
8. Adjust and continuous improvement:
- Collect feedback: Obtain feedback from production teams and customers on new practices and materials.
- Make improvements: Adjust practices and materials based on feedback received and evaluation results.
- Review targets: Update reduction targets based on progress made and new opportunities identified.
