Management of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions

Establish a partial inventory of GHG emissions, including direct and indirect sources, and target an emissions reduction project that also results in operational cost savings.

Management of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions

This action plan helps structure efforts to reduce GHG emissions while achieving savings, thus contributing to more sustainable management of the organization's activities.

1. Establish a partial inventory of GHG emissions:

- Identify GHG sources: Identify direct emission sources (scope 1) such as on-site fuel combustion, as well as indirect sources (scope 2) such as electricity consumption.

- Collect data: Gather relevant data, including fuel, electricity consumption, and other resources related to GHG emissions.

2. Quantify emissions:

- Use emission factors: Apply standardized emission factors to convert the collected data into quantities of GHG emitted, expressed in CO2 equivalent (CO2e).

- Conduct the inventory: Prepare a report detailing the identified GHG emissions, distinguishing between direct and indirect emissions.

3. Analyze the results:

- Identify major sources: Analyze the inventory to determine the main sources of GHG emissions within the organization.

- Prioritize reduction opportunities: Evaluate emission reduction opportunities, identifying those that could also generate cost savings.

4. Target an emissions reduction project:

- Select a relevant project: Choose an emissions reduction project that is feasible in the short term and that could result in cost savings, such as improving the energy efficiency of equipment or reducing fossil fuel consumption.

- Establish an implementation plan: Develop a detailed plan for implementing the project, including steps, required resources, and deadlines.

5. Monitor and measure results:

- Set up indicators: Define indicators to monitor the reduction of GHG emissions and the cost savings generated by the project.

- Evaluate the impact: Compare emissions before and after the implementation of the project to assess its effectiveness.

6. Communicate results:

- Inform stakeholders: Share the results of the inventory and the reduction project with employees, customers, and other stakeholders.

- Highlight the savings achieved: Highlight the economic benefits obtained in addition to the reduction of GHG emissions.

7. Adapt long-term strategies:

- Reassess objectives: In light of the results obtained, adjust the GHG emission reduction objectives and plan new projects to continue reducing emissions and associated costs.
